Ms. Bee's Therapeutic Services, Inc (MBTS) is a non profit organization that provides summer camp programming to children with disabilities in Chatham and surrounding counties. MBTS was started by a parent who has two children with disabilities and could not find a single camp in the county that was willing to accept or accommodate them. In her search for appropriate services for her both children who have Fragile X Syndrome, Mary Poncy and Veta Beard met other parents who also had children with various disabilities and were experiencing similar challenges.
From this basic need for services, Mary Poncy came up with the idea of starting a summer camp for students such as hers, and in 2003, Ms. Bees Therapeutic Services Inc. began services. Today, MBTS supports the needs of individuals with or without disabilities in Savannah, Georgia and surrounding counties. Our program include students without disabilities to enjoy summer activities along with students with disabilities. The students learn from each other and build friendships.
MBTS has successfully implemented services that support disabled students and through collaborative partnerships with different organizations such as government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community organizations, MBTS continues to promote awareness of disability issues and has increased inclusive opportunities within the community for children and persons with with disabilities.
From 2005 to 2008, an average of 50-65 students have attended MBTS summer day-camp program with outstanding successful results. Our goal for is to continue growing to improve and provide services to more students each year .
